Spare JLR Key
A spare Jaguar or Land Rover key is a second key programmed to your vehicle alongside at least one existing working key. It is the most cost-effective JLR key service — because with a working key already present, the vehicle's immobiliser system can recognise a known good key during programming, making the process more straightforward than an all-keys-lost recovery.
All modern Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles use keyless push-start smart keys, meaning a spare cannot simply be cut at a hardware store. The key must contain the correct transponder for the vehicle's security generation — KVM (Key Vehicle Module) on models from 2012 onwards, BCM (Body Control Module) on older models, and post-2018 advanced KVM with UWB (Ultra-Wideband) keyless technology on newer Range Rovers, Defenders and Discovery 5s — and must be paired to the vehicle using JLR-specific diagnostic equipment.
