The Range Rover Evoque launched in 2011 as Land Rover's first compact premium SUV, and has been produced across two body generations with distinctly different key security architectures. It also introduced something unique to the Land Rover range — a convertible body style, available on the L538 from 2016. The convertible uses the same key system as all other L538 models.

L538 · 2011–2018 · KVM Standard

The original L538 Evoque uses standard KVM (Key Vehicle Module) key management across its entire production run — 5-door, 3-door coupe and convertible body styles all use the same KVM architecture. Push-button start smart key with keyless entry. KVM requires specialist JLR diagnostic tools — generic equipment cannot programme L538 keys correctly. The platform shares KVM architecture with the contemporary Discovery Sport L550.

L551 · 2019–Present · Advanced KVM

The second-generation L551 Evoque launched in 2019 on the PTA (Premium Transverse Architecture) platform shared with the Discovery Sport L550 facelift and Jaguar E-PACE. It uses the advanced KVM architecture from launch — all L551 variants require IDS/SDD-compatible specialist diagnostic platforms. The P300e PHEV uses the same advanced KVM as all other L551 models. The convertible body style was not carried over to the L551.
