Jaguar XE Key Security
The Jaguar XE is Jaguar's compact executive saloon, launched in 2015 on the same lightweight aluminium architecture as the X260 XF. It was Jaguar's first model to use the Ingenium engine family across the entire range from launch — both petrol and diesel variants use Ingenium units, making the XE one of the most consistently engineered Jaguars for key programming purposes: a single KVM security architecture throughout its production run, split by model year rather than engine type.
All XE models from launch to the 2019 model year use standard KVM (Key Vehicle Module) key management — the same architecture found in the contemporary F-PACE and X260 XF. Push-button start smart key, keyless entry and proximity detection are all standard. KVM requires specialist JLR diagnostic access for key enrolment — generic tools cannot programme XE keys correctly and a failed attempt can cause immobiliser lockout.
The 2019 facelift updated the XE to the advanced KVM architecture — a more complex security token exchange requiring IDS/SDD-compatible specialist platforms for all key operations. This includes the XE R-Dynamic, XE S and all variants from 2019 to the end of production. The limited-run XE Project 8 (2017–2019) was built on advanced XE underpinnings and uses the same advanced KVM architecture regardless of model year.

Jaguar XE Project 8: The limited-production SV Project 8 (600ps supercharged V8) was built by Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations from 2017 to 2019. Despite being produced during the standard KVM era, the Project 8 uses advanced KVM architecture due to its SVO-specific hardware and software platform.
