Jaguar F-TYPE Key Security
The Jaguar F-TYPE is Jaguar's two-seat sports car, launched in 2013 as the spiritual successor to the E-Type. It is a petrol-only vehicle throughout its entire production run — no diesel, no hybrid, no electric variant has ever been produced. All key services apply across the full engine range: 2.0i turbocharged four-cylinder through to the 575ps supercharged V8 SVR.
All F-TYPE models from the 2013 launch through to the 2020 model year use standard KVM (Key Vehicle Module) key management — the same architecture used in the contemporary XE, XF X260 and early F-PACE. Push-button start smart key with keyless entry. Both coupe and convertible body styles use the same KVM system. KVM requires specialist JLR diagnostic tools for all key operations — generic equipment cannot programme the F-TYPE key correctly.
The 2020 F-TYPE facelift — which also introduced the 2.0i four-cylinder engine — updated the entire range to the advanced KVM architecture, requiring IDS/SDD-compatible specialist platforms for key enrolment. This includes the 2020+ 2.0i, 3.0i V6, V8 R and V8 SVR. The body style (coupe or convertible) does not affect the security system — both use the same advanced KVM from 2020 onwards.
