The outer shell and buttons are separate from the internal electronics — which means many common fob faults can be resolved with shell or button replacement and re-sync, without touching the transponder or programming a new key.

What Can Be Repaired?

A dropped or sat-on fob shell cracks but typically leaves the internal electronics intact. An OEM-specification replacement shell is fitted and the internal board transferred across — the fob is re-synced and fully functional.
A flat key fob battery prevents remote locking, keyless entry and push-button start from working. Battery replacement is straightforward — the new battery is fitted and the fob re-synced to the vehicle's immobiliser to restore full function.
A fob that is physically intact but no longer recognised by the vehicle has lost its immobiliser pairing. Using JLR-specific diagnostic equipment, the fob is re-enrolled into the KVM or BCM — restoring keyless entry and push-button start without replacing any hardware.
Water ingress can damage the circuit board, corrode contacts or short the RF antenna. The extent is assessed on-site. Minor corrosion can sometimes be cleaned and the board restored. Severe water damage may require a full key replacement.
